Iceland Joins 2050 Pathways Platform

Iceland is joining the 2050 Pathways Platform as a member, Convener Laurence Tubiana announced this week. The 2050 Pathways Platform will collaborate with the government of Iceland to support the development of the country’s long-term strategy. The island nation is the 28th member of the 2050 Pathways Platform.

Iceland has ambitious long-term climate goals that it will seek to elaborate in its long-term strategy. At the One Planet Summit in 2017, Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir announced a goal for Iceland to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040. Iceland is also a member of the Carbon Neutrality Coalition, a group of countries that have agreed to develop ambitious climate strategies to meet the long-term objectives of the Paris Agreement.
