In an event hosted by the French Ministry of Ecological and Inclusive Transition, in the context of the annual meeting of the 2050 Pathways Platform, Ministers from 7 EU countries called for expedited development and implementation in all countries, and particularly in the EU, of an ambitious long-term 2050 strategy in line with the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
Ministers from France, Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Portugal, Germany and Luxembourg came together to reiterated the directive from The European Council to prepare a long term strategy by, at the latest, the first quarter of 2019. The European Commission representative who was present for this announcement, confirmed its commitment to produce a proposal for such a strategy as soon as possible.
The Ministers also urged for raised levels of ambition and for these pathways to aim towards net zero GHG emissions in accordance with the Paris Agreement.
